Uno means Number One.

You were. With the incredibly dreamy eyes. You dreamed to soar. You dreamed to catch clouds on your tongue. And the skies in your little paws.

You were, are and will always be Uno. The little girl who dared to challenge the demons.

Even when you bled your heart out, you yearned to catch the dreams on your eyes. And struggled with each ounce of your energy. You knew they were your last. Yet you held on. Showed me the love. Showed Big Sis the love. We were not deserving enough.

I loved you. For the two fleeting days when you shared your bed and your hearth with me. And you gave me a reason to dream. Even in death, you shared your majesty supreme.

I love you Uno. Rest in peace. I love you.

Your dad.

The Last Goodbye

An extraordinary leader, a charismatic woman, a powerful speaker, a person whose ideologies never wavered in the face of violent opposition, a person who put her country's needs ahead of her own, a charmer.

An ode to Womanhood.

Democracy is silenced. The world mourns.

Ah well, I wax eloquent.

For Benazir! The lady who was king.

Rest in peace.

twirl twirl twirl

she twirls on the tips of her toes...

her grace supreme and her chin upthrust and enigmatic... she is the epitomisation of youth... of hours of practise... and months of strenuous exercise... she is as flawless as the Koh-i-noor...

and then her rhythm breaks, she overtwirls, overturns, and falls on her delicate behind... delicate thunder is born...

being the girl-of-steel that she is, she is fine... but the admirer never comes out of his stupor... and he gently passes out into slumber land...

bad roads, an ineffectual government and disinterested politicians claim yet another life...

and the newspapers print stories about yet another careless driver.

Dedicated to Shambo. You shall live on in our hearts.

Farewell Ruchi...

I remember Ruchi when we had to stay back one night to work on something. Ruchi was waiting for Sreekanth (bless that guy... hez got guts!!! ;)) to come back from somewhere outta town... We spoke about Ria, about me, about Sreekanth about her, about her nephews...

And thats exactly how I would like to remember Ruchi, a chirpy bubbly individual whom I have gotten myself in trouble with countless times, but every single time, have emerged someone who has learnt something of work and life.

A stickler for discipline, this girl had literally taught me the ropes of the place within a short time span of 6 months. Now when I look back, I see some parts of her coming out in my mails and the way I address people across the industry.

And now that person whom I could turn to when I seriously needed advice is leaving. She is getting married, starting on a new life, looking at new challenges.

All I can say is...

"Thank you Ruchi."

End of story

It was good knowing you, My Lady...

But it was better all the way,

I tried my hardest,

And you did your best too,

But what was not meant to be,

Was not...

I swear I did not try to hurt you...

I know I did.

This is something that I need.

I am sorry Ria.

I am sorry...

I am very, very sorry, indeed...

Ab naa jaa...

Is it the beginning of another mushy post? I dont think so... Although it is true that I AM missing her, that does not necessarily mean that I would go on writing one mushy post after the other...

Though it is a fact that I would have loved to hold her in my arms right now, it does not mean that there is nothing in the world which does not interest me... Though there are other facts of life which are as living and vibrant as she is, I take my mind off her to devote my time somewhat to those few facets of life which demand my attention equally.

A job. A job is all I had wanted. And at the moment, I am with a job which can be said to be a dream come true for me. A superb company, an MNC with operations spanning four continents. Take-overs and mergers happening every second. Loads of IP attached. Learning opportunity like never before. What more could an aspiring IP lawyer like me ask for?

I know that there are far greater challenges which lie ahead of me. However, I do not wish to spoil being in the moment for those challenges, which might or might not come right away. Living in the moment is what I believe in, and that is what I have been programmed (??) to do.

Not taking away from the fact as to the contributions of all my friends (few and far between that they have been). They have stood by me when it really mattered. And they have been by me throughout. But what talk of friends can be complete without the mention of them by name? I take this opportunity to remember all the friends that I have had in the University.

(a) Arjya: Brilliant guy. Brilliant friend. He was one of the very few who stood by me when I was going through the very worst phase of my life. I have much that I owe to him. If I could even repay a part of what he has done for me, I would be very very happy.

(b) Deepto: One of the first seniors to have befriended me, he became an idol of my life. He still is. Just that we find it difficult to keep in touch, given the rising telephone bills that I already have!

(c) Krishnayan: One of the very few people whom I still regard as my friend. An exceptional thinker and a repository of knowledge, he has been a steadfast friend and one who almost always knows what to do.

(d) Shibani: A person whom I had considered to be a friend at one point of time, things had got a bit sour between us, but am happy that at some time, I was a good friend of this exceptional woman.

(e) Sayantani: The lesser said the better. Just that some things happened that I did not foresee. Even upto a few days before. I tried. Period!

(f) Soumya: ... really... regret everything I did. But do not regret that shes gone. Whatever happened, happened for the best. And because of that whatever that happened, I am with Ria today.

(g) Shameek: A good friend who suddenly lost touch with me, I do not know why he suddenly decided to move apart. I just know that he is smart and capable. And that he is intelligent.

(h) Rohit: How much more do I talk about this guy? Brilliant individual, this one. And now that he is getting his taste of the world, I know that it would be rocking...

(i) Saurya: Good friend, brilliant statesman, absolutely hopeless lover, nice guy... well, thats about it...

(j) Pingal: Very confused, that more or less sums up Pingal Khan... But a nice guy nonetheless. Someone who knows what he wants from life, yet is exceedingly confused about how to get to it. God bless him.

(k) Shravya: Talented woman, who has been at the forefront of almost all the college activities, she is one who did not have hangups with being so talented. One who knew how to handle people, she was good with organising events, and being a generally friendly soul.

(l) Paramita: One of the very few females whom I have interacted with over a period of four years without having a single fight!!! thats how i would always remember her. Shes sweet, but beneath that soft exterior lies a hard, rough-playing go getter. I like her because of both the reasons.

(m) Shraddha: Yeh Dil Maange Mor... used to be our catchline as this vivacious woman used to bounce about the classroom all the time. Time has mellowed her, and she is today a much more feminine version of the Shraddha of yore... Like her because she is always after my life trying to make me quit smoking. he he... funny girl...

(n) Mickey: No description would be complete without the mention of the one and only Mickendranath, the one Mickey. He is perhaps the most perceptive all the seniors that I have been with. An eternal optimist at heart, he would not think twice before treating his friends, of course only on his own money. A favourite of both mine and Saurya, we would go to him for solicitations or advice whenever we needed it, and he would give it to us, free of charge... Great guy!!!

Truthfully speaking, maybe there are none out there who deserve to be mentioned inside my university (past and present) apart from these few. And I do not regret that. What I do regret, however, is that at least two of these people never undertsood me for what I was... And at the moment, I HATE one of them. For those who know me, they know whom I am talking about. Sorry Bo, its not you whom I am referring to.

I am tired, and there are three days left for exams. F***.

23 days, and counting down...

I remember the days when we "batted" for the trophy. I remember the time when "ami 7 eo nei, 5 eo nei". I remember the time when I cried because someone turned me down. I remember the time when I bloodied my hand because I was frustrated. I remember the time when I cringed at my name being called to give an answer.

I remember the time when I cried on someone's shoulder because I wanted to. I remember when I smoked a packet of cigarrettes in a single hour because I was on edge. I remember the time when I stood with someone at hours on end because I was talking about something non-committal. I remember the time when I did a cartwheel because someone said that she had fallen for me.

I remember the time when we talked hand in hand from College to the old hostel with someone very special. I remember the time when I danced with someone and I remember the "nikamma kiya hai is dil ne". I remember the time when someone said that he would wait for me with a box of bandages. I remember the time when I was at the nadir of my political career and how someone had lifted me up by singing to me.

I remember the time when I vommitted for one whole night after getting high on a combination unheard of in this college. I remember crying because I had got through an internship with one of the premiermost corporates in the country. I remember the time when I stayed awake for 72 hours straight, doing my projects. I remember the time when there were 4 computers running in one room, tryig to finish a work in the given deadline.

I remember my first juniors. I remember having my first political spat. I remember making my first friend in the junior batch. I remember giving my first exam. I remember my first love. I remember my first blog. I remember my first comment, and my first commenter. I remember having fallen in love all over again. I remember my first fag. I remember my first football match. I remember my first brush with greatness.

I remember my first brush with getting high. I remember my first classes.

No more are the people going to bat in the same pitch. No more are people going to fight in the class for small idiosyncracies. No more are people going to cry for broken window panes, hearts. No more is blood going to flow because of a broken switch board. No more are there going to be "much obliged"s. No more are there going to be all-night-movies. No more are there going to be the glares of the librarian because we were talking too loudly. No more are there going to be hushed silences in the classes when the teacher passes us by.

We were the class of 2001 of NUJS. We are always gonna be the class of 2001. To us, the University owes much. And we owe much to the place which transformed us from boys and girls to men and women.

Men and women of caliber, who, someday or the other would change the world. We are confident.

To the class of 2001. I am gonna miss you all.

(That, by the way, goes to all and sundry. I know that I have been nasty and uncouth towards some of you. I know that I would deserve much less than what I have received. )

I do not go out as a bitter man. I go out, a proud NUJS ite. A proud lawyer.
